Beverly has just completed a great week of clinic work and teaching in Arequipa, Peru. She taught two separate times at Alas Peruanas PT Program.  The first night, we were expecting about 5-10 faculty for a topic exchange between the Peruvian faculty and Beverly.  However, the Alas program director decided to open up the topic exchange to the students as well. So, it ended up being an audience of about 120 people! Wow, what a change of gears!  Beverly was able to introduce the concepts of Vestibular rehab and NDT to all of those eager learners.

The second teaching time was a planned continuing education course, also hosted by Alas.  It was open to both students and area clinicians.  It was on the Fundamentals of gait assessment and treatment. We were hoping for about 40 participants in this course.  We ended up with an audience of 73.  So, we had to be  pretty creative with how to manage that many people for the lab practice time.  But it worked out well, since Alas has a large campus with a basketball/ volleyball/ soccer court near the auditorium, and the weather is beautiful basically year round. It is truly humbling how much the Peruvian people value education, even though their opportunities to learn are limited.

Beverly has made it to Lima now to assist the rest of the full-time MMI staff in preparing for the project next week.  It is amazing how much logistics go into planning a large project like this. And nothing gets done very fast in Peru.  You have to wait in long lines everywhere and transportation is difficult when you depend on public transport.  Nothing like Bolivar!

We are all praying for safe travels for the rest of the SBU team this weekend.  We hit the ground running on Sunday! Chau!
